Professor Zhengfan Jiang is an expert in innate immunity against microbial infection and tumorigenesis. His lab discovered STING, the master regulator of virus infections and revealed the coordination among infection-induced cytokine production, inflammation and cell death. Their findings of Mn as an immune activator provided novel functions of Mn and the molecular basis for Mn-related adjuvants and immunotherapies. They also identified sulfated glycosaminoglycans in Golgi as coligands for STING and untranslocated/unactivated STING underwent phase separation to form “the STING Phase-separator” to prevent its overactivation. These works will be important for new drug designs in infection control and tumor therapies.
