Global Biofoundry Alliance (GBA)

In May 2019, the Global Biofoundry Alliance (GBA) was officially established in Kobe, Japan. The alliance was jointly launched by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Imperial College London, SIAT, and other 16 top biofoundries from 8 countries. GBA will share infrastructure, standards, best practices, and data resources to jointly address global challenges in sustainable development, and promote the strengthening and construction of synthetic biological research facilities around the world.

GBA is committed to promoting the growth of the synthetic biology industry, while accelerating the commercialization of synthetic biology and biological manufacturing processes and engineering. On the one hand, members of the alliance will strengthen the collaboration and communication between biofoundries, jointly address technical difficulties, formulate international standards, and introduce the concept of intelligent manufacturing into synthetic biology. On the other hand, the alliance will rely on biofoundries to undertake scientific programs to further advance and revolutionize biotechnology.
