Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Synthetic Genomics

The Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Synthetic Genomics was established in July 2018. It is focused on key scientific issues such as genome design, synthetic reengineering, and artificial regulation of different species. The lab is working on developing key technologies and analyzing the essence of life to build scientific support for major applications, such as disease diagnosis, treatments, and efficient large-scale synthesis of drugs. All these could advance the innovative development of the biological industry and growth of the green economy. The lab’s goals include: 1) Researching genome design in prokaryote, eukaryote, and synthetic ecosystems; 2) Developing advanced technologies for synthetic genome modularization, construction, and evolution; 3) Constructing a translational platform for synthetic phage and microorganism chassis. The Key Laboratory aims to be a top scientific research institution in the field of Synthetic Genomics in China and a pivotal global innovation hub, aiming to make breakthroughs and contributions to basic theory. The research aims to achieve several innovative high-tech achievements and promote application translation in medicine, agriculture, environment, military, etc.
