On the evening of February 16, the Meeting of Exchange on Innovation and Development of Synthetic Biology Industry was held at the Heng Tai Yue Synthetic Biology Industrial Park, guided by the people’s government of Guangming District, co-hosted by the Science and Technology Innovation Bureau of Guangming District, Shenzhen Industrial Innovation Center for Engineering Biology and Heng Tai Yue Synthetic Biology Industrial Park and supported by the Synthetic Biology Technology Industrial Chain’s Party Committee in Guangming Science City. Representatives of all parties gathered together to make suggestions for the innovation and development of the synthetic biology industry in Guangming District.
The meeting of exchange was attended by Yao Gaoke, a member of the standing committee of the Party committee and deputy head of Guangming District, related persons in charge of the district’s Development and Reform Bureau, the district’s Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, Xinhu Sub-district, Fenghuang Sub-district, the district’s Kefa Group and Weiguang Biological Products Co., Ltd., representatives of Synthetic Biology Institute of SIAT, Shenzhen Industrial Innovation Center for Engineering Biology and Shenzhen Bay Laboratory and other research institutions related with synthetic biology, three major industrial parks related with synthetic biology in Guangming District, the founding executives of more than 20 synthetic biology enterprises in the district and more than ten synthetic biology financial institutions inside and outside the district.
Yao Gaoke emphasized in his speech, as the place where the Comprehensive National Science Center’s pilot zone in the Greater Bay Area, Guangming District undertakes the historical mission to serve the national strategy and build national engines, lead the development of synthetic biology industry cluster, build a highland of synthetic biology industry with a global influence and contribute wisdom and strength to the construction of a world-class Science City and the Northern Center of Shenzhen together.
At the meeting of exchange, representatives from Salus, the Synthetic Biology Institute of SIAT, Shenzhen Bay Laboratory, Silver Star Synthetic Biology Industrial Park and Shenzhen Angel Mother Fund shared their views on such aspects as entrepreneurship experience in synthetic biology industry, academic progress, analysis of leading enterprises, and hot spots of finance. The heads of relevant departments in Guangming District had in-depth discussions with synthetic biology enterprises, industrial parks, research institutions and financial institutions on accelerating the development of synthetic biology industry in Guangming District, and extensively listened to the ideas and suggestions of the representatives.
In recent years, the construction of Guangming Science City has developed with each passing day. At present, the starting zone of Science City has been basically completed, and the synthetic biology infrastructure led by the SIAT will be put into use in March this year. Shenzhen Bay Laboratory was approved as a Shenzhen base of the Changping National Laboratory. A batch of “upstairs and downstairs” innovation and entrepreneurship complexes including Shenzhen Industrial Innovation Center for Engineering Biology have been completed and put into operation, and the concentration degree of Science City has been highlighted. Guangming District is fully implementing the provincial and municipal deployments and requirements on the development of synthetic biology industry, and trying to catch up with the pursuit of excellence.
The meeting of exchange has gathered resources in the field of synthetic biology, focusing on the development and ecological layout of synthetic biology industry in Guangming District, supported Guangming District to accelerate the building of an internationally renowned and nationally first-class incubator and highland of synthetic biology industry, and provided a new momentum for the high-quality development of Guangming District and even Shenzhen as a whole.
