On the afternoon of November 16, the Education Bureau and Science and Technology Innovation Bureau of Guangming District held the Guangming District Event of the third Shenzhen Popular Science Month & the launch ceremony of the pilot credit system of popular science education for primary and secondary schools in Shenzhen around the theme of the National Popular Science Day of 2022, “Ushering in the 20th Congress of the CPC, Future Oriented Popularization of Science”. The event was attended by the leadership of related departments such as the Municipal Institute of Education and Science, the Municipal Association for Science and Technology, the Education Bureau and Science and Technology Innovation Bureau of the district.
15 organizations including the Shenzhen Industrial Innovation Center for Engineering Biology of SIAT were awarded the “Off-campus Science and Technology Innovation Education Base for Primary and Secondary Schools in Guangming District”. 20 schools such as “Senior High School of Guangming District”, “Experimental School of Guangming District” and “Shenzhen Affiliated School of Sun Yat-sen University” were awarded the “Pilot Schools of Popular Science Education Credit System for Primary and Secondary Schools in Shenzhen”.
It was reported that the pilot program was officially launched in Guangming District as an effective measure of Shenzhen to implement the Notice of the General Offices of the Ministry of Education and China Association for Science and Technology on Promoting the Double Reduction Policy with Popular Science Resources.
The Education Bureau of the district worked with other competent departments such as Science and Technology Innovation Bureau to implement the Double Reduction Policy, advance the district’s popular science credit system and popularization of science, conduct a quantitative evaluation on the students’ involvement in scientific practice in the form of credit points (including popular science education and competitions). Through colorful and lively activities, it aimed to create a good atmosphere for the students to develop enthusiasm in the learning and application of science.
The “Creation” Popular Science Base will rely on the innovation and entrepreneurship carriers such as the Synthetic Biology Institute of SIAT, Shenzhen Institute of Synthetic Biology and the Industrial Innovation Center for Engineering Biology, striving to promote the popular science education with the major opportunities from the construction of a world’s first-class science city and the Northern Center of Shenzhen.
